EAST TERRACE occupies a formerly vacant infill lot, and is located immediately north of Milwaukee’s Lower East Side. Developed by Blackwatch ’68 Properties, this simple and efficient building design is a compact planning solution with a sculptural and material street frontage.
CONTEXT
The design and organization of the facade elements create a strong vertical rhythm similar in scale and proportions to existing homes. Public interior volumes are clad with weathering steel siding, while exterior terraces are lined with naturally warm cedar lap siding.
INTERIOR/EXTERIOR
The relationship between interior and exterior rooms was investigated as a way to both physically and visually extend and overlap spaces within a small footprint. Exterior terraces were conceived as extensions of primary interior living spaces; fully glazed walls and sliding doors were utilized to connect between.
